POLICING WITH PURPOSE Meet Rohit Rajbir Singh The New Additional DCP of Dwarka

With a strong background in law enforcement and a clear vision for community-focused policing, IPS officer Rohit Rajbir Singh has taken charge as the new Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Addl. DCP) for Dwarka District on 30th June 2025. An engineer by qualification and a police officer by passion, Singh brings with him over eight years of diverse experience in urban and rural policing. In this exclusive interview, he shares his plans for improving law and order in Dwarka, enhancing community engagement and addressing key concerns like women’s safety, senior citizen welfare, and urban crime.

Here's what he had to say to the residents of Dwarka.
Q1. First of all, welcome to Dwarka. Please give a brief introduction of yourself so that the residents of Dwarka can get to know you better.
Ans- Thank you so much. I am Rohit Rajbir Singh, an officer of the Indian Police Service from the 2015 batch. I have done both my schooling and college here in Delhi. I am also an engineer by qualification, which I pursued as a backup option, but my heart was always set on joining the police force. I come from a police family, so public service was a natural inspiration for me from a very young age.

Q2. How many years of experience do you have in the police department? Which places have you served at and in what positions so far?
Ans- I have been in the Indian Police Service for around eight years now. After being selected in the 2015 batch, I underwent two years of training and have been serving since 2017. I started my posting in Delhi and then I was assigned to Arunachal Pradesh, where I worked in different segments of policing and administration. Now, I have returned and am posted as the Additional DCP for Dwarka District.

Q3. The jurisdiction of Dwarka District Police includes urban, rural, unauthorized colonies and slum areas. Since Dwarka Sub City has a majority urban population, what are your plans for policing in urban areas?
Ans- Dwarka Sub City is a dynamic and growing urban area with a diverse population. My first priority is to understand the specific issues faced here, including traffic challenges, street crimes and public safety concerns. We will focus on proactive policing - visible presence, quick response times and greater engagement with resident welfare associations (RWAs) and local communities to build trust and maintain law and order effectively.

Q4. In urban areas like Dwarka, problems such as snatching, theft, burglaries and encroachments are quite common. What kind of strategy will you adopt to tackle these issues and how will you implement it?
Ans- We plan to adopt a multi-pronged strategy. First, strengthening beat policing and regular patrolling in sensitive areas, especially markets, parks and residential pockets prone to such crimes. Second, using technology like CCTV coverage under the Safe City project to monitor and deter criminals. Third, working closely with local volunteers and residents for information-sharing and quick reporting. Finally, we will ensure prompt and strict legal action against offenders to create a strong deterrent.

Q5. There are a large number of senior citizens in Dwarka. What are your plans to address their concerns and ensure their safety?
Ans- Senior citizens deserve special attention and we will prioritize their security. We plan to reactivate and strengthen senior citizen registers at the police station level, assign beat officers to regularly check on them and promote helpline awareness among seniors. In addition, community policing initiatives, including interactive sessions with senior citizens, will be organized to ensure they feel heard and supported.

Q6. In recent months, police patrolling seems to have decreased. Do you plan to increase the number or frequency of patrolling?
Ans- Yes, definitely! Visible police presence is essential to boost public confidence and for crime deterrence. We will review existing patrolling routes and timings and optimize them to ensure greater coverage, especially during vulnerable hours. There will be increased foot patrols as well as vehicle patrols in areas where residents have reported concerns.

Q7. Women are an essential part of our society, yet there have always been shortcomings in ensuring their security. What measures will you take to enhance women's safety?
Ans- Women’s safety will be a top priority. We will focus on effective implementation of existing schemes by Delhi Police, such as self-defense workshops, safe corridors and women’s helplines. We will also identify dark spots that need better lighting or camera coverage and work with municipal agencies to fix those. Additionally, we will encourage women to actively approach the police without fear, through outreach and confidence-building measures.

Q8. You are known for being an honest and strict police officer. What steps will you take to maintain this image and ensure discipline within the department?
Ans- Thank you for saying that. Integrity and discipline are the backbone of policing. I will ensure that our team upholds transparency, professional ethics and respect for the rule of law. Regular briefings, inspections and zero tolerance for any misconduct will help maintain discipline. At the same time, I will encourage an open-door culture within the department so that officers can raise challenges or suggestions without hesitation.

Q9: Finally, what message would you like to convey to the residents of Dwarka? And if someone wishes to meet or contact you, how can they do so?
Ans- I would like to reassure all residents of Dwarka that their safety and well-being are our top priority. We will work in close partnership with you to ensure a secure, peaceful environment. I encourage everyone to report problems without hesitation - your participation makes policing stronger. Anyone who wishes to contact me can do so through the Dwarka District Police office or via our official helpline numbers. I am always open to constructive dialogue and suggestions from the community.
