Teams All Set To Play IWPL-5


IWPL-5 begins on 18th June and culminates on 23rd  June, 2024. 8 teams have been divided into 2 groups having 4 teams each. The group team will play the matches among themselves and 2 top teams will qualify for semifinals. The best 2 will play the finals to win the IWPL-5 trophy. The matches will be played between 7:00am and 5:00pm at Bal Bhavan International School Dwarka, Sector-12. 

Dwarka City under the banner of Ek Mutthi is once again gearing to hold IWPL. This will be the fifth edition of IWPL. Started in 2018, a unique and pioneering cricket tournament took place in the sub- city, known as the IWPL - Indian Wheelchair Premier League. Modeled after the immensely popular IPL, this tournament aimed to captivate cricket enthusiasts from Delhi and beyond. And indeed it did! 

The tournament saw tremendous success over its four seasons. Following the triumph of the Indian Wheelchair Cricket Premier League in 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023, Dwarka-Delhi is once again preparing to host the 5th edition organized by Ek Mutthi Trust in collaboration with the Divyang Cricket Control Board of India. IWPL-1, 2, 3, and 4 garnered significant attention with numerous dignitaries and prominent personalities associated with the event. This year, the Wheelchair Premier League will once again take place at Bal Bhavan International School Cricket Ground in Sector-12, Dwarka, from June 18th to June 23rd, 2024. Mukesh Sinha, Mg editor of Dwarka City is the convenor of the event and organiser is Vinod Thakur, famous legless dancer. First meeting to plan preparations of the IWPL was held between organisers and Divyang Cricket Control Board of India (DCCBI) at Chattisgarh Bhawan. Mukesh Sinha states, "Preparations are on full scale to host a 6-day para sports event, Indian Wheelchair Cricket League-5, in June 2024 with eight teams at Bal Bhavan International School, Sector-12, Dwarka, New Delhi. The tournament will provide a platform to disabled people to showcase their sporting talent. We have earlier got a lot of support from Dwarkaites and also from people of Delhi and NCR. We expect the same this year too.” Eight teams will participate in the tournament and around 150 players from different states will showcase their passion and determination. Vinod Thakur informed, “The preparations are on to host the event. This year the event will be different and special. There is lot of scope of entertainment to the audience. A friendly match will be played on the first day between Delhi Police and Wheelchair cricket team. There will be eight teams with 15 players in each team. The league matches will be of 15 overs and the semi-finals and final will be of 20 overs each. I request all Dwarkites to come and motivate the players.”
