Inaugration Of Akeso Health At Dr. Gautam Rikh’s Clinic


It was 20 years back on April 1, 2004, the Government of India started Free Antiretro-viral therapy (ART) for the country. It is a therapy to treat human immune-deficiency virus infection. Popularly known as Acquired Immuno-deficiency syndrome (AIDS), a severe form of HIV infection. During 1980s AIDS  was a stigma and was considered a death sentences on the moment it was diagnosed. Now with drugs and diagnostics, it is possible for the person living with HIV (PLHIV) can live a normal life. Ziduvudine (AZT) was introduced and approved by US Food and Drugs administration (FDA) in 1987, subsequently  protease inhibitors came in around 1995. Post 2000, lot of new drugs emerged and fixed dose combinations are highly effective and safe. Presently India has  around 24 lakh people living with HIV (PLHIV) and is the second largest HIV epidemic almost 6.3%. The centre also has facility of screening of infections like Tuberculosis, meningitis, pneumonia etc. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) will also be provided. Vaccinations facility are also available for prevention of the disease. Human Papilloma Virus vaccine (HPV), for prevention of cervical cancer, HIV Care and management, trangender’s health,  psychological services, Gender affirming hormone therapy and comprehensive management of all sexually transmitted infections are also available at the centre.
