Bhumi Pujan Ceremony of Dwarka Ram Leela Mahotsav Held
The grounds of Sector- 11 were filled with devotion, reverence, and anticipation on Sunday, September 8th, 2024, as the Association of Social and Cultural Events commenced the 22nd Dwarka Ram Leela Mahotsav 2024 with Bhumi Pujan ceremony. This year’s Ram Leela promises to be even grander event that will continue the tradition that has captivated audiences for over two decades. The Bhoomi Pujan began at 10:30 a.m. with a ceremonial pooja, performed by pandits, which was followed by a hawan at 11:00 a.m. Devotees, community members, and key figures of the association gathered to pray for the success of the Ram Leela. The air was filled with the chanting of mantras, and a sense of spiritual energy enveloped the venue.
Mukesh Sinha, the President of The Association of Social and Cultural Events, shared his thoughts, stating, "This event is more than just a cultural celebration. It is a reflection of our faith, values, and dedication to keeping our traditions alive. We are honored by the community's unwavering support, and we are committed to making this year's Ram Leela an unforgettable experience." During the puja, beautifully adorned idols of Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman were installed with great devotion. The priests invoked divine blessings through the traditional hawan, a ritual that purifies the ground and prepares it for the upcoming performances. Pandit Ji, who led the ceremonies, explained the significance of the rituals: "The Bhumi Pujan is a way to connect with the divine forces and seek protection and success for the entire event. It purifies the space and fills it with positive energy." Following the rituals, prasad was distributed among the attendees, symbolizing the blessings of the deities. The event was graced by enthusiastic participation from local residents, devotees, and notable members of the community.
The Ram Leela Mahotsav is known not only for its grand theatrical performances but also for the vibrant fair that accompanies it. From October 3rd, Dwarka’s Sector 11 ground will transform into a hub of activities with stalls, rides and entertainment for people of all ages. The Ram Leela performances will depict the life and victories of Lord Ram, blending devotion and drama in an artistic display of faith and culture. Mohan Gupta, who portrays the role of Lord Ram, expressed his excitement: "It’s a privilege to play the role of Lord Ram. The preparation is intense, but the love and respect from the audience make it all worth it. We look forward to presenting a performance that honors the legacy of this great epic." Additionally, the Ram Leela Director Vishu Sharma shared insights into the preparation process, highlighting the commitment of the entire team: "Every year, we strive to make the Ram Leela more engaging, while staying true to its spiritual essence. This year, we have new elements in place that will captivate our audience and make the experience even more immersive." The event is also backed by a strong organizing committee that has ensured everything is meticulously planned. Members of the committee, emphasized the importance of community involvement and cultural preservation. Says Abha Gurain, "For over 20 years, the Dwarka Ram Leela has been a pillar of cultural heritage in our city. We are proud to be part of this legacy and look forward to bringing it to life once again." Last year's 21st Dwarka Ram Leela Mahotsav was a resounding success, with thousands flocking to the grounds for the performances and the fair. From colorful stage setups to dramatic enactments of scenes from the Ramayana, the event brought ancient tales to life with stunning costumes, expert choreography, and heartfelt performances. Families enjoyed not just the spiritual content but also the numerous fair attractions, which ranged from joy rides to mouth-watering street food stalls.
