1. Can you introduce yourself and share a bit about your background?
I hold a B.Sc. in Physics Honours, which I completed in 1993, and my education has helped develop my problem-solving skills, crucial for law enforcement. I’m married and have two sons in college. My family has always been a source of support, driving me in my professional journey.
2. What motivated you to join the police force?
I joined the police force in 1998. The security of a government job and the encouragement from my family drew me to this profession. Additionally, witnessing petty crimes and robberies in my surroundings inspired me to pursue a career in law enforcement, where I could make a tangible difference in public safety.
3. Can you share your prior experience working in Delhi?
I began my career as a Sub-Inspector at Parliament Police Station, a high-profile role that gave me early exposure to significant cases. I’ve also worked in Sarojini Nagar, Kotla Mubarakpur, Lodi Colony, and Vasant Kunj. These roles allowed me to handle complex cases and leadership positions, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
4. How do you plan to engage the community in ensuring safety and security?
Engaging the community is key to my strategy. I plan to implement proactive patrolling strategies, including silent motorcycle patrols, regular picket checking, and a strong presence in the area. Strengthening partnerships with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) is also crucial, as they play a major role in community policing. Additionally, optimizing CCTV cameras and ensuring robust PCR coverage will help improve surveillance and response times.
5. How will you address the needs of the diverse communities in Dwarka?
Given the mix of rural, semi-urban, and urban areas in Dwarka, my approach will be tailored. In rural areas, I will focus on building strong relationships with the community to address local concerns. In urban segments, like DDA flats and societies, my approach will focus on managing traffic and preventing street crimes. Regular communication with residents will ensure our strategies are both effective and adaptable.
6. What are your immediate priorities as SHO of Dwarka South?
My primary goal is to enhance the efficiency of police operations. Reducing street crimes such as robbery and snatching is an immediate priority. Swift resolution of complaints and maintaining open lines of communication with the community will help build trust and ensure better safety for residents.
7. Are there any new programs you intend to introduce for safety?
Yes, I plan to initiate various programs, including citizen awareness campaigns aimed at promoting safety measures and crime prevention. Educational programs for schools and senior citizens will focus on promoting moral values and community engagement. These initiatives will foster a more collaborative approach to safety in Dwarka.
8. What challenges do you foresee in your role, and how will you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges is addressing the diverse needs of the community, particularly street crimes and public trust. I will overcome these challenges through proactive policing, leveraging technology, and maintaining clear communication with residents. Building strong relationships and ensuring the police force remains responsive to the community’s changing needs will be central to my approach.
9. How do you plan to improve police-community relations?
Improving community relations is a priority. Regular interactions with residents and maintaining transparency in our operations are key. I encourage residents to share feedback, which will help us improve policing practices and build stronger community relations. Listening to concerns and addressing them promptly will help establish mutual trust.
10. How do you handle the stress of such a demanding job?
I manage stress through physical activities like playing cricket and practicing meditation. These activities help me stay balanced and focused, enabling me to handle the pressures of law enforcement more effectively.
11. What is your message to the residents of Dwarka?
I encourage residents to remain vigilant and cooperative with the police. Community support is vital for maintaining safety, and I urge everyone to report suspicious activities. Together, we can create a safer and more secure environment.
