CELEBRATING MOTHER’S DAY

Mother’s Day is a global celebration that honours mothers and motherly figures, recognising the sacrifices and invaluable contributions they make to their families and society, is observed each year on the second Sunday of May. This year, it was on 12th May. A mother is not just a person; she is the heartbeat of the family, the anchor of our souls whose arms are made of tenderness and her heart is stitched with love. Mother's Day is a special occasion to express gratitude and admiration for the unconditional care and support a mother provides to her children and family, contributing selflessly to their well-being and success.
Mother's Day, a celebration with roots dating back to the early 20th century, pays homage to Anna Jarvis' mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, a peace activist, who passed away in 1905. As per BBC, Jarvis initiated the tradition by purchasing 500 white carnations for a memorial service held in her hometown on the second anniversary of her mother's passing. Subsequently, Jarvis advocated for the official recognition of Mother's Day as a holiday in the United States. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially designated the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day in the US, which was later adopted by other countries. As mothers play a crucial role in shaping families and society, Mother’s Day marks their selfless love and unwavering dedication and people around the world celebrate it in diverse ways, expressing their love and appreciation for maternal figures. Celebrating mothers on Mother's Day contributes to their emotional well-being. It validates their role and efforts, promoting a sense of fulfillment, pride and happiness in their important role as mothers. Noted writer Khalil Gibran has rightly said that ‘Mother is the most beautiful word on the lips of mankind’.

Here's how Dwarkaites express their love for mothers-

Mother itself is a word that nobody could even describe well, because it’s a feeling that I could get when I myself became a mother. Unconditional love that a mother can give to her kids as the best gift. I only understood the feeling of a mom when I became a mother 13 years ago, mother of a lovely daughter, who even loves me more than anything and she expresses and reciprocates also in her own way. I got emotional when she made a card for me on Mother’s day. I want to thank my mother also for always being there for me whenever I needed it. I am still learning a lot from her each and every day.

Whenever I look at you, mumma I always wonder how you do what you do. How hard has it been for you to continue to do it for so many years now? I wish I could know you sooner, I wish I was your best friend back then. How much I wonder, could things have been better if I was there? It’s always been you, giving my sister and me everything. The immeasurable support that you provide me with. A love without any conditions, a love without any wants. Only you are capable of this, mumma, only you have the strength to give so much to everyone. Looking at your pictures, I can't believe that that shy, timid girl is my mumma. I can't imagine how resilient a person can be for I have never met anyone as strong as you. I love you to the moon and back.

As I am a mother myself now, I am able to understand my mother Taljit Kaur’s role and importance. I find myself reflecting on the countless ways she shaped my life. Her endless love has been a constant source of strength and comfort, guiding me through both the highs and lows. Her selflessness knows no bounds, and I am forever grateful for the sacrifices she made to ensure my happiness and well-being. Thank you for being the embodiment of unconditional love, and for always being there for me, no matter what. I cherish her more than words can express.

Mother creates, therefore she is Brahmani. Mother nurtures, hence she is Vaishnavi and destroys bad qualities by creating values in her children, hence mother is Rudrani. Mother's love is the best love in the world, mother's sacrifice is the best sacrifice in the world, Mother's teaching is the best teaching in the world and mother's lap is the safest and coolest place in the world. If despite doing all the pilgrimages, you are deprived of the service of your parents, then understand that everything has gone in vain.

Mother’s love is a guiding light, her strength an unyielding force. On Mother’s day we honor mothers for the countless sacrifices, the boundless love, and the unwavering support you provide. In their arms, we find solace; in their words, wisdom. Their presence fills our lives with warmth and joy, painting our world with vibrant colors of love and tenderness. From the early mornings filled with breakfasts made with love to the late nights spent soothing our fears, mothers have been there every step of the way. Their laughter echoes in the halls of our memories, a melody of joy that brightens even the darkest days. Through selfless acts of kindness and unwavering devotion, mother has shown us the true meaning of love. Mothers are the heart of our homes, the rock of our families. On this special day, I want to express our deepest gratitude for everything mothers do. Happy Mother's Day, today and every day. Your love for your mother is the greatest treasure.

My mother, the late Mewa Wati Goel, is my hero. She not only brought me into this world but also raised me in a family of educators. I want to take this moment to publicly acknowledge that it was from her that I learned the profound philosophy of philanthropy, the art of giving. She instilled in me the resilience to rise every time I faced failure. She was my strength, inspiration, mentor, and above all, my hero. My mother taught me to believe in myself and to extend a helping hand to others, just as she did throughout her life. I consider myself fortunate to have her contributions etched into my memory for a lifetime. Every year on my birthday, August 8th, just seven days before the Indian Independence Day celebrations, I am reminded of the labour pains my mother endured to bring me into this world. Despite the agony she endured, she welcomed me with love and warmth. The memory of that moment is etched deeply within me, a testament to her unwavering love and sacrifice. On this Mother's Day, I celebrate and honour the memory of my beloved mother, whose love and teachings continue to guide me every day.

"Though you're no longer with me, Mom, I want you to know that I'm thinking of you today and every day. I miss your warm embrace, your loving smile, and your guiding light. Your memory lives on in my heart, and I'm grateful for the time we had together. I wish I could tell you how much I love and appreciate you one more time. Rest in peace, dear Mom. You will always be my angel."

'Mother' is the most pronounced word uttered by a person in the journey of life. There is nothing more precious in every person's life than the love of a Mother. 'Mother' is not just a word-but the six letters are full of love. A Mother accepts her children's stubbornness and quarrels with a smile, forgives mistakes and prays day and night without any reward for the welfare of her child, holding hands when child falls and leaning on her shoulder when child is tired. On this Mother's Day, we fondly remember all mothers around the world who are a symbol of love, compassion, care and tolerance. The celebration of Mother's Day first started in the country of Greece. Now it is celebrated in every part of the world.
