KUSHAGRA'S JOURNEY A Young Music Prodigy In The Making

Kushagra's musical journey began when he was just three years old, turning a harmonium into his favorite toy. His father, a music enthusiast, introduced him to the basics of music, and soon, Kushagra began exploring songs and tunes on YouTube. His musical talents were further nurtured by his school after he was enrolled at the age of 3.5. Balancing academics and music with ease, Kushagra dedicates time to both pursuits, excelling in his studies while attending music classes. He is proud of his achievements, including a silver medal in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2024, and winning Voice of Dwarka. His school has been a strong pillar of support, with teachers Piyush and Vijay guiding him. His recent releases, including the Mahisasurmardini Stotram, showcase his growing success. Kushagra also performed at the Dussehra Ground, Sector-11, during the Spell Well ceremony awards on 1st October.

Dwarka City talked to Kushgra about his musical journey-

1. Can you tell us how your journey into singing began?
My musical journey started when I was just 3 years old. At that time, I used to play with a harmonium as if it were a toy. My father, who has a deep love for music, noticed my interest and taught me the basics, starting with "Sa Re Ga Ma." From there, I naturally began exploring songs and tunes, especially on YouTube. When I joined school at 3.5 years old, my teachers further nurtured and developed my musical skills.

2. What inspired you to pursue music, and who are your biggest influences?
Since I started music at such a young age, I didn’t really have a specific inspiration. Instead, I think it was a natural inclination toward music. My family jokingly says that this passion is something I’ve carried from a past life. I didn’t need external motivation because my love for music seemed to come effortlessly. My father, with his own interest in music, was also a big influence in guiding me.

3. How do you balance your studies and your passion for singing?
I balance my studies and music by attending music classes after school. Despite my passion for singing, I make sure to stay focused on my academics as well, and I’m doing well in both areas. I think it’s all about managing time and staying disciplined. I enjoy both studying and singing, so it never feels like one is taking away from the other.

4. What was your experience like performing at the Spell Well ceremony on 1st October?
Performing at the Spell Well ceremony was an incredible experience for me. The crowd was large and welcoming, which made the performance even more enjoyable. I felt connected with the audience, and it brought me so much joy to share my music with them. The organizers were also very warm and supportive, which made the whole event a memorable one for me.

5. How did you prepare for your performance at such a prestigious event?
Preparing for the Spell Well ceremony took a lot of dedication. I listened to the song multiple times to get every detail right. Then, I practiced it on the harmonium with the guidance of my Guruji. Rehearsing consistently helped me refine my performance. I believe that preparation is key before any event, and I always make sure I’m ready to give my best.

6. Do you have a particular genre or type of music you enjoy singing the most?
I love all types of music and don’t limit myself to one particular genre. Each genre has its unique charm, and I enjoy exploring different styles. Whether it’s devotional songs, classical tunes, or modern music, I like to experiment and learn. This allows me to grow as a singer and adapt to different musical challenges.

7. What role does your school play in supporting your musical talents?
My school plays a huge role in my musical journey. They have been my biggest supporters. Piyush Sir and Vijay Sir have taken the time to groom me and teach me important musical skills. Their constant encouragement and guidance have helped me improve. Beyond just music classes, my school also gives me opportunities to showcase my talent at various events, which has really helped me grow as an artist.

8. Have you participated in any other singing competitions or performances?
Yes, I’ve had the chance to participate in several competitions and performances. I won a silver medal in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2024 and was the junior category winner in Voice of Dwarka. I’ve also performed at events like Swachhata at Vegas Mall, where Ms. Maithali Thakur was invited, as well as at Bhajan Sandhya and Bal Ramleela. Each experience has been unique and has helped me grow as a performer.

9. What are your future aspirations as a singer?
I aspire to become a successful musician. My goal is to keep learning, growing, and refining my craft. With the support of my teachers and family, I want to reach a point where my music resonates with a larger audience. I also hope to explore different platforms, collaborate with other musicians, and contribute something meaningful to the world of music.

10. What advice would you give to fellow students who want to pursue singing alongside their studies?
My advice to fellow students is to always explore your interests and passions, no matter what they are. If you love something, go for it with dedication and consistency. It’s important to strike a balance, but with the right focus, you can excel in both studies and your passion. I also encourage parents to support their children in pursuing their interests, as my parents have done for me.

11. How did you feel when you saw the audience’s reaction to your performance?
Seeing the audience’s reaction always brings me immense joy. It’s such a fulfilling experience to watch people enjoy my music. Whether they’re clapping along or simply listening with appreciation, it gives me a lot of motivation and happiness. Knowing that the audience is connecting with my performance is the best reward for all the hard work I put in.

12. Do you have any upcoming performances or projects you’re excited about?
Yes, I’m really excited about some of my upcoming music projects. My latest song, Mahisasurmardini Stotram, was released on 3rd October, and I’m thrilled about how it turned out. I also have several more songs lined up for release on my YouTube channel, including Durga Chalisa and Shiv Tandav Stotram. I’m looking forward to sharing these songs with a wider audience and continuing to grow as a musician.
