Dwarka Gears Up For IWPL-7 As Dwarka Readies for a Better Edition

Cricket fever is set to return to Dwarka as prepa rations gather momentum for the seventh edition of the Indian Wheelchair Premier League (IWPL-7) 2026, one of the city’s most inspiring sporting events. The much-awaited tournament will be held from June 14 to June 21 at Bal Bhavan International School, Sector-12, the venue that has hosted previous successful editions. Over the years, IWPL has evolved from a local initiative into a nationally recognised platform celebrating talent, determination and inclusivity through wheelchair cricket. Players from across India are expected to participate, showcasing high-quality competitive cricket and extraordinary sporting spirit. Organisers believe this season will be bigger than ever, with stronger management, wider outreach and enhanced facilities.
A key highlight this year is IWPL’s association with the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India, an organisation linked with the national cricket structure. The partnership is expected to bring better coordination, professional standards, new players, coaching staff and wider recognition for the tournament. Major matches including the opening game, semi-finals and final are expected to receive live coverage on DD Sports, while all fixtures are proposed to be streamed online, helping the event reach viewers across the country. Organisers said this step would give wheelchair cricket the visibility it truly deserves. Earlier, a detailed planning meeting was held at Panache Restaurants, Sports Complex, Sector-17, where members reviewed last year’s event, discussed shortcomings and planned improvements in logistics, transport, publicity and spectator participation. Special focus was placed on attracting school students, volunteers and Dwarka residents to attend matches in large numbers.
Behind the success of IWPL stands Ek Mutthi, a Dwarka-based social organisation known for promoting inclusivity, community welfare and opportunities for persons with disabilities. Founded by the social worker Sudha Sinha, Ek Mutthi has earned appreciation for blending sports with social empowerment. Besides organising IWPL, the group has been actively involved in awareness drives, support initiatives and community-building programmes.

The Indian Wheelchair Cricket Premier League 2026 (IWPL-7) Trophy Launch will be held on 10th May at 3:00 PM at Vegas Mall. The event aims to promote inclusive sports and encourage talented wheelchair cricketers across the country.
Chief Guest Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Addl. DCP, Dwarka will grace the occasion, along with Guests of Honours Suresh Anand, Director, Vegas Group. The Special Guests will be Rajender Singh, former ACP, Dwarka and Mr. Sunil Kimar, SHO, Dwarka North. The launch will celebrate the spirit, resilience and determination of specially-abled athletes. Sudha Sinha, the convenor requests the Social organisations, NGOs and residents of Dwarka to attend, support and motivate these inspiring players while promoting inclusion and equal opportunities in sports.

Mukesh Sinha, Mg. Editor Dwarka City and IWPL organiser, said IWPL had become one of Dwarka’s most awaited annual events. “What began as a tournament is now a celebration of courage and achievement. This year we want to make it grander, smoother and more impactful,” he said. With cricket, courage and community spirit coming together once again, IWPL 2026 promises not just thrilling matches, but a powerful message that talent knows no barriers. Ek Mutthi-  Ek Mutthi, a Dwarka-based social welfare trust, has emerged as a well-known name in community service by combining compassion, empowerment and citizen participation. With a vision to build a society free from poverty, oppression and inequality, the organisation has been working steadily to support underprivileged sections and promote social responsibility. The trust was conceptualised by Sudha Sinha, social worker and Managing Editor of Dwarka City, one of the oldest and leading newspapers of the sub-city. Over the years, she has also served as Secretary and President of the Federation of CGHS Dwarka and has remained actively associated with several welfare and cultural initiatives. Her contribution to community service has earned her numerous recognitions. Ek Mutthi became widely known through its grain donation campaign, encouraging citizens who can afford it to donate one fistful of grain for the needy. The collected food grains are distributed among economically weaker families, helping fight hunger and malnutrition in Delhi. The organisation’s mission is simple yet powerful - to ensure that no person is deprived of basic food at least twice a day and to work towards a hunger-free city. Its focus extends beyond food support. Ek Mutthi also aims to uplift disadvantaged communities by providing basic assistance, creating opportunities for self-respect and enabling a life of dignity. In recent years, the organisation has gained appreciation for successfully organising the Indian Wheelchair Cricket Premier League (IWPL) in Dwarka, a unique cricket tournament celebrating differently-abled athletes. The event has become a symbol of inclusion, talent and resilience. A notable initiative during IWPL is the opportunity given to school and college students to work as interns and volunteers. Young participants are involved in event management, media handling, hospitality, coordination and social outreach, allowing them to gain practical experience while learning values of empathy, discipline and teamwork. Residents say Ek Mutthi has shown how a local organisation can create meaningful change through small but consistent efforts. From feeding the hungry to empowering youth and promoting inclusive sports, the trust continues to live up to its name - proving that even one handful can make a big difference.
