RACE FOR NURSERY ADMISSION BEGINS

It's that time of the year again when schools start with the process of nursery admissions. The mad rush for admission to the pre-primary section will start soon with filling up of registration forms. With a considerable mismatch between the demand for quality education and the availability of seats in reputed schools, the struggle to admit one's child into school is a nightmare.

The Directorate of Education Delhi has issued the notification and schedule for admission to pre-school. (Nursery), pre-primary (KG) and Class 1 at private, unaided schools. The application process is set to begin on November 23 and end on December 15. The first merit list will be released on January 12, 2024 and the second list is scheduled for January 29. Eligibility Criteria - For admission in pre-school (nursery), pre-primary (KG), and Class-1 the minimum age - as on March 31 - should be three years, four years and five years respectively, according to the notification. Pre-school, pre-primary and Class-1 are classified as entry level classes and the upper-age limit for admission is less than four years, less than five years and less than six years, respectively. The cut-off date for determining the age limit will be March 31, 2024 (the year in which admission is being sought). Application fee - The DoE has clarified that schools can collect only ₹25 as non-refundable admission registration fee. Purchase of prospectus will be optional. “Buying of prospectus of school along with application form is not mandatory for parents and schools can neither force parents to buy prospectus nor can charge any processing fee. Only Rs. 25/- (non-refundable) can be charged as admission registration fee from parents,” the DoE said. Reservation of seats- All private, unaided schools will reserve 25 per cent of the seats or EWS/DG category students. Admission for EWS/DG/CWSN category seats will be a separate process. Documents valid as proof of address - Ration card/smart card issued in the name of parents (mother/father having the name of the child). Domicile certificate of the child or parents.

Here are few tips given by Principals of schools for Nursery admissions-

Basava International School believes in the holistic growth of a child. This is a caring school which appreciates diversity, encourages inclusion, upholds democratic values and contributes positively to the social environment. Children here are groomed for life and to be future ready. With a 25% reservation for the underprivileged children at the entry level, the students and parents from regular homes have learnt how to appreciate and endorse the dreams of the less fortunate ones and progress together. Proximity to school is accorded the highest weightage for nursery admission at Basava. Basava parents are keen to put their second child in this school which is an index of their satisfaction. We reciprocate that by factoring sibling points into the admission criteria. Alumni, girl children and staff wards are the other few considerations for nursery admission. While choosing a school for their child, parents should check whether the school’s ideology matches theirs. If yes, it will be a smooth sailing for the next 14 years. Second, the feedback from existing parents is an important input. Only a satisfied parent will normally keep the child in the same school from the nursery to Class XII.

Admission time is a challenging time for parents. Choosing a school for children is quite a daunting task. Parents tend to have strong preferences and criteria. It is one of the most difficult decisions to make as parents. All parents want to start their child’s academic journey in the best of the institutions. My advice to these young parents will be that they must look for an institution which develops the core qualities with an amalgamation of studies with activities emphasizing holistic education. An institution which teaches learning concepts in an exciting, engaging manner rather than rote learning, a school which provides ample opportunities for nurturing not just the intellect, but also essential virtues, ethics, love, and compassion within a safe and stimulating environment. It must be a journey of curiosity, creativity and turning each child towards a brighter future with the confidence to manage the various challenges in life. The inspiring and encouraging atmosphere makes learning enjoyable while inculcating academic skills, emotional and social values without forgetting that children are bundles of happiness and beams of sunlight.

Delhi has often borne witness to the palpable apprehensions and nebulous uncertainties that envelop new parents during this initiatory process. G. D. Goenka Public School, Dwarka, mandates 80 points for children within 0 -12 kms and 70 points for children beyond 12 kms, and 20 points under the Siblings criteria. Gathering Requisite Documents: A Journey of Organization -Furthermore, the assemblage of requisite documents is an imperative prelude to this educational pilgrimage and typically includes the progeny’s. birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residence, and passport-sized photographs. Commencing with the collection of these documents in advance forestalls last-minute flutters. Open houses and school tours provide a panoramic vista into the ethos of pedagogic enlightenment. Some institutions may conduct an interaction session with the child to holistically evaluate their social, emotional, and cognitive development. While this may seem daunting, remember that the objective is to observe your child's natural interactions and behaviors. Relax and encourage your progeny to unfurl their natural proclivities during this session, allowing them to be the architects of their own authenticity. Pose inquiries, seek elucidation, and articulate your concerns unabashedly. In the end respect the admission outcome. As parents embark on this extraordinary chapter, they must approach the nursery admission process with patience, understanding, and a willingness to learn.

Change is inevitable and modern times require modern approach to take hold of things. Pedagogies are aimed at developing an individual as a rational thinker. It is just the techniques within the pedagogies that are constantly explored to reach the final result but the result remains the same. We teachers are natural adaptors who align ourselves quickly with the changing tunes of time and pedagogies to give the students what they truly deserve. It is, therefore, recommended that the parents choose a school which can identify the areas of strength of the children and channelize the syllabus, pedagogies and children’s energies towards achievement of one’s actualization. As we embark on the exciting journey of another academic year, the tingling sensations begin for the young parents. Numerous questions start bubbling around selection of the most suitable school for the future of their child. In my over two decades of journey with schools, the most common conversation I have witnessed amongst young parents is the critical analysis of schools and their child’s admission. I am very mindful in articulating “most suitable” and not “the best” school ! Understand the school’s philosophy, open communication channels, attend information sessions and open houses. Prepare your child for exposure to a new environment by engaging in activities that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development. Foster independence in your child. Encourage self-help skills at home, such as dressing themselves and tidying up. Lastly, trust your instincts. At Delhi International School Edge, we understand the significance of early childhood education and the role it plays in shaping a child’s future. Our curriculum along with a dedicated team of teachers fosters intellectual, emotional, and social development, laying a strong foundation for future success. We instil strong values to help children become responsible and compassionate human souls. We focus on empowering global learners through competency-based education. As the Principal of Delhi International School Edge, I extend a warm welcome to all parents seeking admission for their little ones. Our focus is on nurturing each child unique potential and providing them with a solid foundation for a successful future. Wishing you and your child a wonderful start to this exciting chapter!
