Action Needed to Prevent Potential Disaster In Sector-4, Dakshinayan Appt.
A major accident occurred past Sunday at Dakshinayan Apartments due to the fall of a large tree branch, causing serious safety concerns among residents. Prompt response from the MCD led to the removal of the broken branch. However, the dangerously tilting tree-clearly a threat to life and property-was left untouched, as MCD officials cited the need for prior approval from the Forest Department to proceed with its removal. Despite a formal hand-delivered appeal submitted to the Forest Department last Monday, there has been no response or acknowledgment to date. “The next accident is just a matter of time. Are we prisoners of procedure? Is a life-threatening situation to be ignored due to inter-departmental delays?” questions Col Satchit Kumar Basu (Retd), Secretary of Dakshinayan Apartments. He says, “We appeal to the concerned authorities-especially the Forest Department-to urgently intervene before this looming threat turns into a tragedy. We also request any civic, environmental, or legal body that can help expedite this matter to come forward.”
