Temporary Food Kiosk Given Electricity Connection From Near by DDA Apartment
Can street vendors get electricity connections? With mutual collusion, anything is possible! A case in point is the temporary food kiosk "Manya Fast Food" located right in front of IP University in Dwarka. The Public Relations Officer of the university, Nalini Ranjan, resides in the nearby DDA apartment "Sarvahit Society". When he returned from a visit to his hometown with his family, he found an unauthorized electricity meter installed near his flat's designated electricity meter. Upon inquiry, he discovered that the meter belonged to the temporary food kiosk "Manya Fast Food" outside the society. When questioned, the kiosk owner couldn't provide a satisfactory answer. It was revealed that he had obtained the electricity connection with the help of the local electricity department and the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of the society. Further investigation revealed that the kiosk owner is a relative of a local Jal Board official. He had initially set up his kiosk near the National Law University about three years ago and obtained an electricity connection. After being evicted from there, he shifted his kiosk to the front of IP University. Nalini Ranjan has expressed serious concern and called for strict action saying, “This is a clear misuse of authority and a threat to both safety and accountability. I have formally requested a high- level inquiry into how such unauthorized connections are being allowed and who is enabling them.” The matter raises larger questions about how temporary setups manage to access official utilities with impunity- a situation that calls for prompt administrative and legal scrutiny.
