Age Well Association organised a workshop on 'Cyber Safety and Security for Senior Citizens' in association with Dwarka Police. The chief guest, M Harsha Vardhan, IPS, DCP, Dwarka interacted with senior citizens, a vulnerable section of the society and highly prone to online risks. He gave them useful tips to safeguard themselves from the fraudsters. There was interactive session too and Harsha Vardhan responded to each query raised by the senior citizens. DCP Dwarka was accompanied by Madan Lal Meena, ACP Dwarka and all the three SHOs of Dwarka Sub-City besides Jagdish Kumar, Inspector, Cyber Crime Cell, Dwarka District. Jagdish Kumar spelled out precautionary indicators of online crimes. Mukesh Sinha, Mg Editor, Dwarka City who was present on the occasion said, “This is a very good initiative by Age Well Association and Delhi Police. Cyber-crime cases have increased in Dwarka suddenly in last 2 years. The workshop was very informative and senior citizens who are not adept with mobile and are vulnerable become victims to cyber- crimes. The government / banks claims that it reimburses the money lost by victims, but this is not seen. Hope such workshops are held in all sectors to make citizens aware.”  I M Khanna, President of Age Well Association and organiser welcomed the guests and emphasised the need of creating awareness among Senior Citizens regarding the cyber- crimes. He said, “This is an important topic. Our members keep complaining every day, but we did not have any solution. Thus, we invited DCP and his teams for imparting knowledge about cyber-crimes. People had multiple quarries and DCP suggested how to identify risks and protect oneself from fraud. He also informed how and where to report for cyber frauds for timely resolution. I am sure members will benefit by this programme.”

We met senior citizens today and discussed the Cyber Crime cases. Cyber Crime with senior citizens is growing and it needs to be curbed. The senior citizens have to be vigilant and should take precaution while entertaining online transactions. To safeguard from Cyber Crime, it is always better than cure. It was an excellent platform for the Police to interact with the senior citizens of Dwarka Sub City.  We will look forward to having such interaction with other segments also.

It is important to know what Cyber Crime is and how it can be prevented. The modus-operandi of cyber-crime keeps changing and the residents have to be cautious. The police through Social Media should keep the senior citizens aware of the changes happening in cyber- crime. The criminals keep changing their style of functioning and citizens should be enlightened with the latest trend of cyber-crimes. We also should restrain from greed as most of the criminals lure the people by offering prizes/gifts etc.
Suresh Sharma, IGP(Rets), Punjab Police

The cyber Crime in Dwarka sub-city has grown multifold in the last one year and most of the victims are senior citizens. Age Well Association in its last AGM decided to organize a cyber-crime awareness program with the Delhi Police. The idea is to make senior citizens aware of the different ways that the criminal fleece the hard earned money. We are thankful to DCP, Dwarka for attending and sharing his expertise in preventing cyber-crime with senior citizens
