MOTHER'S DAY : A WARM HUG FOR YOU, MOM!

There’s a saying: “Mother is the name for God on the lips and in the hearts of little children.” But why only little children? A mother remains divine throughout our lives -through our youth, adulthood, and if we’re fortunate, well into our later years. Mother’s Day is that special time of year when we celebrate our very first best friend -the one we turn to for guidance, comfort and strength. It’s also a beautiful opportunity to honor all the incredible women who have shaped our lives with love and care. A mother’s role is unmatched. She tirelessly works to bring joy to her children and make their dreams come true. Despite balancing home, career and countless responsibilities, she always makes time for her children. Her dedication often goes unnoticed - but never unappreciated. This day offers the perfect moment to express in words and actions just how deeply we love and cherish our moms. While the tradition of Mother’s Day might be relatively recent in India, the reverence for motherhood is deeply rooted in our culture. From worshiping the divine feminine during Durga Puja to honoring Kali Ma, Indian heritage has long upheld mothers as sacred figures. But a day to celebrate one’s own mother brings a personal and emotional significance that resonates deeply.

The bond between mother and child in Indian society is unique, built on sacrifice, love, and unwavering strength. That’s why dedicating a day to honor mothers feels not only meaningful but necessary. The present-day celebration of Mother's Day began in the year 1908 when Anna Jarvis organized a memorial for her mother, Ann Jarvis, a peace activist who used to care the wounded soldiers of the American Civil War. The event was held at the St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, which currently holds the International Mother's Day Shrine. Anna Jarvis began the task of getting support for the celebration of Mother's Day in the United States in 1905 after her mother died the same year. She wanted to honor all the mothers of the world who have done a lot for their family and society. Due to her continuous efforts, most of the US states by 1911 started celebrating Mother's Day as a local holiday and West Virginia, the home state of Jarvis, became the first state to declare the holiday for the occasion in 1910. Finally, the second Sunday of May was officially designated as Mother's Day in the USA and was declared as a national holiday after Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States of America signed the proclamation in 1914. In this way, the present Mother's Day came into existence in the USA and the same date is also selected by countries like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Italy, Singapore, Belgium and a lot more other countries. Mother's Day is an occasion which is celebrated in various parts of the world to express respect, honor and love towards mothers. The day is an event to honor the contribution of mothers, acknowledge the efforts of maternal bonds and the role of mothers in Our society. As society evolves, the role of mothers becomes increasingly challenging. Today’s moms are expected to do it all - raise children, return to work shortly after childbirth and manage both home and career with grace. The support systems of the past may have changed, making motherhood more isolating and demanding than ever. Yet, they persist with resilience. This Mother’s Day, let’s remind our moms they are never alone. Let us - sons and daughters - go above and beyond to show them our appreciation, love and respect not just with gifts or words, but through our actions and continued support.

In Dwarka, residents are expressing their heartfelt affection and gratitude, making this Mother’s Day truly special.

Needonomics reminds us that the greatest wealth is not in what we accumulate, but in what we nurture. A mother's giving nature - grounded in needs teaches us to live with balance, gratitude, and compassion. Let us, especially the young generation, acknowledge our mothers not just with flowers and words, but with deeper appreciation, respect and responsible living. Let this Mother’s Day serve as a call to cherish the timeless values mothers instill - the true building blocks of a need-based and value-driven society. Mother's Day isn’t just a celebration - it’s a small attempt to honor the infinite love that gave me life and continues to give me reason to live. She held my soul before I had a name and gave me strength before I knew what fear was. In the quiet of her arms, I learned what it meant to be safe - before I could speak, before I could walk, I was wrapped in the kind of love that asked for nothing in return. Her sacrifices were silent, buried beneath tired smiles and sleepless nights, yet they built the foundation of every dream I’ve dared to chase. I have fallen more times than I can count, but her faith in me has never once trembled.

This Mother’s Day, as the world honors the unconditional love and strength of mothers, I want to pay tribute to the incredible women who have been instrumental in shaping my life and career - both personally and through inspiration. At the heart of my journey stand three remarkable women from my own family: my mother Sharda, my mother-in-law Bimla Devi and my elder sister. Their simplicity, humility and caring nature taught me that love, patience and determination can transform lives and dreams into reality. Their values continue to guide me every day. On this special occasion, let us all pause to appreciate the women - mothers, sisters, grandmothers, mentors - who’ve shaped us into who we are. Their strength and love truly make the world a better place.
