DWARKA CITY To Paint The Spirit of Republic Day
Even before the first notes of the national anthem echo across the nation, Dwarka City is preparing to celebrate Republic Day in a way that goes beyond parades and protocol. This year too, the spirit of January 26 will find its most vibrant expression not just in flags and salutes, but in the colourful strokes of children, who are ready to paint their love for the nation. The much-anticipated DC Republic Day Painting Competition is set to return, transforming Republic Day into a celebration of creativity, innocence and patriotic pride. Republic Day is not merely an annual ritual marked by ceremonies and speeches; it is a living reminder of India’s constitutional values, its struggles and its aspirations for the future. In Dwarka, these sentiments come alive through art, as young minds pour their thoughts and dreams onto paper. With crayons, brushes and boundless imagination, children express visions of unity, peace, progress and hope - capturing the nation’s soul in colours far more eloquent than words.
Over the years, Republic Day celebrations in Dwarka have become closely associated with this children’s painting competition hosted by Dwarka City. Held uninterrupted for several years except during the Covid period, the event has evolved into one of the most anticipated occasions for children and parents alike, fostering creativity while strengthening a sense of national pride. The 2026 edition of the competition will be held on January 26, beginning at 2.30 pm. It is open to children between 3 and 14 years, divided into three age groups - 3–6 years, 7–10 years and 11–14 years, along with a special category. Topics will be announced on the spot to encourage originality and spontaneous expression. Drawing sheets will be provided, while participants are required to bring their own colouring materials such as crayons, pencil colours, poster colours or sketch pens. Says Sudha Sinha, Mg. Editor Dwarka City and organiser, “Republic Day is far more than a ceremonial date; it is a powerful reminder of India’s journey, its values and its collective aspirations. For children, these sentiments often find their most honest and joyful expression through art. Splashing bright hues on paper, young participants trans
late feelings of pride, hope, unity and dreams for the nation into visual stories. Free from boundaries and expectations, their artwork becomes a pure reflection of the country they imagine and believe in.”
A panel of renowned and experienced artists will evaluate the entries. While the true reward lies in participation and self-expression, attractive prizes will be awarded to winners in each category, ensuring encouragement for every young artist. Children, too, are counting the days. “I am excited to meet other kids and see their drawings,” said six-year-old Riya, clutching her new box of crayons.
As the tricolour soars high this Republic Day, Dwarka’s young artists stand ready to paint India’s hopes and dreams - one joyful stroke at a time.
“The excitement around this competition is truly heartening. We have been receiving continuous enquiries from parents and children, which reflects how deeply this event resonates with the community. It gives us immense satisfaction to provide a platform where children can express their creativity while celebrating the spirit of the nation. We invite young and professional artists from across Dwarka to join us and make this Republic Day truly colourful. Participation is free of cost.”

“When I draw the Indian flag, I feel proud,” said eight-year-old Aarav, eagerly waiting for the competition. Another participant, 11-year-old Mehak, shared, “I want to paint India as clean, green and happy. I have been practising at home every day.”
