Dwarka City News
Dwarka witnessed a renewed surge of sporting enthusiasm this week as preparations for the Indian Wheelchair Premier League (IWPL) 2026 gathered momentum, following the successful signing of a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 4 at KG Marg, Connaught Place. Earlier, a crucial preparatory meeting had been held at the Sports Complex, Sector-17, where a large number of organising members came together to review last year’s tournament and chart out a roadmap for the upcoming edition.
The team engaged in detailed discussions on past shortcomings, while also welcoming new ideas and strategic changes aimed at enhancing the overall quality and execution of the event. This year marked a significant transition for the tournament, as organiser Ek Mutthi formally partnered with the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India an organisation affiliated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The MoU, signed on April 4, formalised this collaboration, signaling a stronger and more structured approach to IWPL 2026. This special occasion was graced by Sqdn. Leader Ajai Pratap Singh, Ravi Chauhan along with their esteemed team members. The passionate Ek Muthhi and Dwarka City family including Ms. Sudha Sinha, President, Mukesh Sinha (Convenor, IWPL), Mohd. Tahir (Technical Head), Vinod Thakur (Organiser) Ms. Abha Gurain (VP, Ek Mutthi), Davinder Paul (Secretary), Ms. Zainab, Ms. Bharati Kanojia, N C Mishra, Arun Agarwal and Ramesh Tiwari were present. With WCIA being supported by the BCCI, this collaboration opens a powerful new chapter creating greater opportunities, visibility and a stronger platform for wheelchair cricketers across the nation. Said Sudha Sinha, founder Ek Mutthi, “We feel enthusiastic, proud, hopeful and deeply confident that this partnership will pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future in cricket. Ek Mutthi IWPL Season 7 begins with purpose, passion and promise!”
Following the MoU signing, a press conference and the official tournament trophy will be unveiled in the presence of media representatives, underlining the growing stature of the event.
Mukesh Sinha, Convenor, said, “The partnership is expected to infuse fresh energy into the tournament through the inclusion of new players, managers and coaching staff, thereby raising its competitive standard and appeal. With the new partnership we are confident of delivering a bigger, smoother, and more engaging experience for players, spectators and supporters alike.”
In a major push towards wider visibility, organisers have prioritised live coverage for this edition. Key matches, including the inaugural game, semi-finals and the grand finale, are scheduled to be telecast on DD Sports, while all matches from June 14 to June 21 are planned for live streaming on YouTube. This initiative aims to overcome previous limitations and expand the reach and recognition of the tournament. Beyond the on-field action, IWPL 2026 continues its commitment to providing comprehensive facilities for participants, including accommodation, meals, match arrangements and recreational support. Organisers also actively invite suggestions to further enhance the experience for players and teams. Emphasising community participation, the organisers encourage residents, families and school children to attend matches in large numbers and support the inspiring performances of differently-abled players. The involvement of young volunteers is also promoted to foster values of discipline, empathy and inclusivity.
Sudha Sinha, founder of Ek Mutthi, said, “IWPL 2026 is set to go beyond being just a cricket tournament, emerging as a powerful platform celebrating determination, talent and the true spirit of sport. We are sincerely grateful to all schools for their continued support. I request everyone to come forward this season and support us wholeheartedly, just as they have always supported our Indian team players during previous tournaments.”
