DWARKA MARKS International Yoga Day WITH ENTHUSIASM

Parks, schools, community centres and residential societies across Dwarka witnessed vibrant celebra-tions as residents from all age groups came together to celebrate International Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm. Early morning sessions saw children, senior citizens, fitness enthusiasts and families participating in yoga asanas, meditation, pranayama and breathing exercises, turning the subcity into a hub of wellness and mindfulness. Yoga instructors guided participants through a series of exercises aimed at improving physical fitness, mental balance and overall well-being. Organisers said the growing participation every year shows how yoga has become an essential part of modern lifestyles, helping people reduce stress, improve concentration and lead healthier lives in today’s fast-paced world.

The history of International Yoga Day traces back to September 2014, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed at the United Nations General Assembly that the world dedicate a day to yoga, describing it as India’s ancient tradition that connects mind, body and nature. The proposal received overwhelming support from 177 countries and on December 11, 2014, the United Nations officially declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. The first celebration was held globally on June 21, 2015, marking the beginning of what has now become a worldwide movement promoting health and harmony. This year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the country’s 12th International Yoga Day celebrations from Kolkata’s iconic Red Road, where thousands joined him in a mass yoga session under the 2026 theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” Addressing the gathering, he emphasized that yoga has now become one of the world’s largest community movements, bringing together people beyond boundaries, cultures and age groups.

As Dwarka residents stretched and meditated together in celebration, the message resonated strongly-yoga is far more than exercise. It remains one of India’s greatest gifts to the world, promoting peace, discipline, inner balance and a healthier future for generations to come.
